Accounting Technicians Ireland is a professional body for Accounting Technicians on the island of Ireland with over 10,000 members and students. ATI qualifications, which are internationally recognised, are designed to fast-track a career in accounting and finance.
Kathleen admits that because she’d been away from the classroom for so long, she was a bit apprehensive about doing the course but her worries were unfounded. She says other students in the class who came from different work backgrounds were very helpful and the lecturers were really supportive.
Although the same course is also available at the College’s Newtownabbey campus (two evenings a week), Kathleen decided to do it in Magherafelt where it is offered on a day release basis with classes on the afternoon and evening of the same day.
“I’m often asked why I decided to travel when the same course is available on my doorstep but because I work in Mallusk, I can get into the office for a few hours before going on to Magherafelt for classes and that way, I keep on top of my work and manage to miss most of the traffic!”
Before signing on for the course, she did a trial run to Magherafelt and was pleasantly surprised at the journey time.
“I discovered that the College’s Magherafelt campus is even more convenient than I thought and, because it is a smaller campus, it is friendlier and less intimating for mature students.
