- Develop a range of personal skills and attitudes.
Special Features
- Coursework and project based learning is a major percentage of the overall assessment in the majority of units in year 1 and 2.
- Students have the opportunity to improve their existing skills as well as learning new skills while working on formal assessments and extra curricular activities.
- The main aim of this course is to get students into industry, which we do by immersing them into a professional working environment. We achieve this by giving the students the opportunity to perform in full scale productions, creating events and performances for external companies such as the Rosepark farm and their Halloween Extravaganza and Winter wonderland which was attended by over 4000 people and received rave reviews such as “Halloween extravaganza out of this world! Never been to anything like it- Hollywood quality acting from NRC college drama students who should be commended to their lecturers as all a- star! There aren't enough superlatives to describe this event!”
- Students also get to develop their skillsets by working alongside the other teams in the creative industries departments working on short films, music videos and animations.
- Students are also prepared for their next step on the educational ladder by exploring what courses and apprenticeships are available to them on achieving a L3 qualification. Special links have been made with Universities such as Liverpool Hope and their school of creative Arts and Uclan the University of central Lancashire, both of which have had students accepted onto their courses.
- The highlight of the year is the end of year show in the local Riverside Theatre, where students get to perform and work with industry professionals on a major show.
Assessment Methods
- Case studies, assignments and work-based assessments, along with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.
- Assignments are designed using realistic scenarios which give students the opportunity to make maximum use of practical activities as part of their continuous assessment.
- Students also take part in the variuos Music Skills and Performing Arts competitions around Northern Ireland, with assessments being built around the content of these competitions.
