If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
 


Course Aims

This qualification is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.

A Diploma in Health and Social Care is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can select a pathway that suits their role - for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia.

This recognised qualification is for care workers and senior care workers in health and social care.


Special Features

Students will undertake work placement in a wide range of care settings - working with older people, young children and individuals with special needs.


Assessment Methods

Each unit is assessed by assignments and awarded a pass grade.

Course Update

Please note that due to ongoing major campus construction projects courses at Ballymena, Coleraine and Ballymoney may be relocated to alternative suitable locations as required.


Applicants must be in employment or have organised a placement of 6 hours weekly for the year in any health and social care setting in order to be assessed, as well as satisfy ACCESS NI Assessment Methods and health checks. 

In the event of oversubscription, the College reserves the right to increase the entry criteria for this programme to GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above in preference to Essential Skills or lower graded GCSEs. Applicants will still be reviewed in date order and by order of preference.


Successful students may progress to a Level 3 programme in Health and Social Care or a Child Care programme.
